Situation
In 2014, Pinehurst will host an unprecedented back-to-back U.S. Men’s Open Championship and U.S. Women’s Open Championship.  An estimated 25,000-40,000 spectators per day will be on hand to watch the world’s greatest men and women golfers compete for the 2014 Open Championship titles.  As the Village of Pinehurst and surrounding communities begin to ramp up for these events there are opportunities to maximize the pre-event exposure for the area, and to celebrate the fact that the Opens will be in Pinehurst in 2014

Objective
Create a promotion that creates a buzz in the Village of Pinehurst in advance of the U.S. Opens, drives new business to the area businesses and local merchants and raises charitable funds for local, region and national benefactors.

Solution
Created Art Fore Golf, which will be an extraordinary indoor/outdoor art exhibit in The Village of Pinehurst to build civic pride as host community of the 2014 Men’s & Women’s U.S. Open Championships.  Individually painted and decorated golf balls will surprise and delight community residents, tourists and U.S. Open Championship fans from throughout the world, in advance of the Championships in 2014.  World renowned artist Bob Timberlake is the Honorary Chair for Art Fore Golf, painting the first ball and exhibiting it in the Village of Pinehurst art exhibit that will be unveiled in June of 2013.  Net proceeds from the sponsorship and auction of each golf ball will benefit North Carolina and National charities.
